Superintendent's Message

Chris Pfister

Chris Pfister

I am looking forward with much optimism to the 2018-19 school year; once again a new beginning, an opportunity for our students to learn, grow, and excel in many areas.

Please introduce yourself to our new Middle/High School Principal, Brian Hogan.  Mr. Hogan is coming to us after two years as principal of Russia HS in Shelby County.  Mr. Hogan graduated from Bellefontaine HS where he was captain of the football team and has coached various sports for 17 years.  However, he also was active in music and musicals, so he has a diverse background.  We look forward to Mr. Hogan joining our leadership team for 2018-19.

This year also brings two new teachers to our district, Jocelyn Hennon, MS/HS Physical Education & Health, and Jenna Reimesch, MS Math, both W-G graduates that excelled in high school and college.  We are very happy that they have chosen to “come home”.  We also welcome a new counselor, Rachel Payne.  Rachel recently received her Master’s degree in School Counseling and will be working primarily with Middle & High School students but also coordinating districtwide activities with Abby Dellinger, who will be working primarily with Elementary students.

Mr. Wireman will move from MS Math to Intervention, assigned to help students with math as a co-teacher with MS/HS math teachers.

Mrs. Junkins is in process of creating an exciting new opportunity for students, the conversion of our library/media center to a MakerSpace and Makerlab.  Making is a way of bringing engineering to young learners.  The concrete experience of making brings meaningful context for understanding previously abstract science and math concepts.

We are equipping our Makerspace with Inventor cloud 3-D printers, a laser cutter/printer, laser engraver, and more.  Every Waynesfield-Goshen teacher and student will have access to these resources.  We plan for this technology to be an integral part of every subject; students will utilize these tools to gain knowledge and problem solving skills.  This equipment further lends to students creating and participating in entrepreneurial adventures.

The W-G Board of Education is committed to help every child reach their potential. We want to give every student the opportunity to become proficient in academics, current technology, and to develop creativity and to have a dream beyond school.

Parents please do not hesitate to contact our teachers to seek detailed information so you can help your children work on targeted areas of growth.

Also please encourage your child to participate in one or more of our extracurricular activities, a sport, art show, theatre, science project, other.  Have them try something new, to be part of a team, a project, something special that will help them identify interests and build confidence.

We also extend a sincere thank you to all of our boosters and volunteers; we appreciate all you do.

This is your school district.  Please feel free to contact me at any time with any concern, issue, or idea.  Feel free to stop by school to say hello and share your thoughts with me.  Or call me at 419-568-9104 or e-mail me at pfisterc@wgschools.org.

Thank you.  Chris Pfister
