SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE

We are excited and look forward to a great 2017-18 school year; once again a new beginning, an opportunity for our students to learn, grow, and excel in many areas.

We welcome four new teachers.  Mrs. Kayla Welch, MS/HS English, Mrs. Sarah Heindel, MS/HS English, Mrs. Luann Lee, HS Comprehensive Science, and Mr. Collin Cummings, MS/HS Intervention.  We invite you to come in and meet them when you have the opportunity.

We also have a new guidance team in place.  Mrs. Abby Dellinger, Guidance Counselor, will move to the elementary office, and be responsible for K-12 social-emotional counseling as well as other guidance functions.  Mrs. Chelsea Junkins, MS/HS Business, will teach three periods, College Credit Plus classes in Economics and Computer Applications, 7th grade career connections, and serve as college and career advisor with multiple student services responsibilities.  Mrs. Kathy Lament, MS/HS Math, will serve as official State Testing Administrator and will be providing teachers with testing data and support for success.  They will be coordinating with the principals and working as a team

We have added a second p.m. preschool class to be taught by Mrs. Jessica Casey and assisted by Mrs. Rachel Jordan.  We now have two a.m. classes and two p.m. classes to serve age 3, 4, and 5 year old children.  We believe it is very important to help all children get a jump start, so please take advantage of and let others know about this great opportunity.

We will continue work in career exploration, externships, and teaching a seven module manufacturing class. Students completing the class will earn a Rhodes State College certificate.  Mr. Tyler Turner, Science/STEM, will also add a pre-engineering class to the Project Lead the Way design & modeling class, as well as STEM classes.  Mr. Rob Schnippel, Agriculture, will continue project based instruction in the lab (you may have seen the excellent projects our students completed at the fair).  Both will continue with applied work; not just what you know, but what you can do.

The W-G Board of Education is committed to help every child reach their potential. We want to give every student the opportunity to become proficient with current technology, to develop creativity, and to have a dream beyond school.  Parents please encourage your child to participate in one or more of our extracurricular activities, a sport, art show, theatre, science project, other.  Have them try something new, to be part of a team, a project, something special that will help them identify interests and build confidence.

We extend a sincere thank you to all of our boosters and volunteers; we appreciate all you do.  Everyone, please join us in helping all of the children in our community learn, grow, and feel like a real human being; and parents please do not hesitate to contact our teachers to seek detailed information so you can help your children work on targeted areas of growth.

This is your school district.  Please feel free to contact me at any time with any concern, issue, or idea.  Feel free to stop by school to say hello and share your thoughts with me.  Or call me at 419-568-9104 or e-mail me at pfisterc@wgschools.org

Thank you.  Chris Pfister
